community and assist trouble youth and adults with drug addictions. Perry started researching drug, alcohol and treatment centers. He stopped by the Integrity house, where he picked up a pamphlet for our future program. Immediately he embraced this project and began walking out the steps to keep his mind on his dream and create a safe haven from the streets.
Perry worked hard at improving himself in all aspects of his life; thus creating a positive environment and a sense of purpose. His potential was seen by others and he was given an internship position as an in-house Limousine driver.
On December, 10, 2010, Perry suddenly departed this world as he was struck with a massive heart attack. Just before this fatal blow, Perry was evangelizing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with emphasis on John 10:10 - A thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but I came to give life - life in all its fullness and a message on “Be Clean and Be Free” to his peers in a Group Session held at the Integrity House of Newark, NJ. Not knowing that this will be his last words, he encourages the men in the group to receive the optimal strength possible to help one another conquer this common foe of addiction. He realized more and more that addiction is a serious and debilitating disease. It ends up becoming the center of someone’s life. Not only does it consume one’s time, money and energy but it causes one to forget just how enjoyable life can be clean and sober.
Perry proclaimed and charged the residents to “Commit to Your Sobriety.” This is the foundations goal as we continue to fight for the men and women who are struggling in this area and to keep Perry’s Message alive is by reintroducing to all that life is both fun and fulfilling – especially when you are “Clean & Sober”. Start now! Start here! A New Life – Drug Free is waiting for You.
The Perry Herring “Be Clean & Be Free” Foundation will donate money in honor of Perry Herring to the following organizations to help save lives and to begin anew.
Perry is survived by his mother Eleanor Wise; two brothers Gregory and Reginald Herring all of Plainfield, NJ; his daughter and son-in-law, Chuanita and Kareem McAlister; two grandchildren: Isis Lipscome and Vincent McAlister, all of Durham, NC; his son, Kell’E Gallimore of Plainfield, NJ, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He is deeply missed!
