Essence of Healthy Eating

With shorter days and colder weather, in the morning, it’s hard to get out of bed and by 8pm you're more interested in watching a movie on the Lifetime channel, curled up on your couch than cycling. This is the time, to have a contingency plan and call on your friends. If you usually exercise alone, you may need someone to help keep you motivated. It’s important to stay active through all four seasons by reconfiguring your schedule to exercise and make healthy choices; this will allow you to enjoy the winter with loved ones without regrets!
In many cases, individuals gain 1 to 3 lbs during this time of the season, and most people do not lose the weight in the spring, when their activity level increases. This can be a 5 to 15 pounds weight gain within five years.
Learn these tips on how not to gain weight this winter season and learn some healthy eating habits!
- Self-Control - Eat small portions and slowly to keep yourself from indulging too much.
- Minimize beverage calories - What you drink during this winter can add calories and short you on nutrition. Look for hot cider and flavored waters.
- Maintain weight - This is not the time to diet. It is the time to change your way of eating and make it a priority. This will help some to maintain their current weight or to lose some weight depending upon their commitment to be a better person.
- Walk - Incorporating physical activity and walk – make it a family thing! Just 40 minutes a day can make a difference.
